All About Deafway

People very rarely talk about how isolating life can become when communication isn’t accessible. Most of us move through the day without really noticing how much we rely on hearing. Phone calls, appointments, conversations at work, asking someone for help in a shop, all small things really, until they suddenly aren’t easy anymore.

Deafway works with Deaf people all across the UK, helping make everyday life a little less difficult and honestly just less frustrating sometimes. The charity actually dates all the way back to 1894 and they’re based in Lancashire, although the support they provide reaches much further than just the local area. One thing I really like about Deafway is that they don’t try to overcomplicate things or hide behind loads of corporate sounding language. They provide real, practical support for deaf people, especially in situations where communication barriers can leave people feeling excluded or just completely overlooked.

Their team also works really hard to improve understanding of the Deaf community and Deaf culture generally, which still feels massively needed in a lot of places. As well as that, they also have onsite residential services for people who need extra support, which makes a huge difference for many families.

What Deafway Does

A lot of charities specialise in one area. Deafway covers quite a few, mainly because Deaf people can run into barriers almost everywhere, not just in one part of life.

  • They provide residential care for Deaf adults, where staff communicate using British Sign Language and understand Deaf culture. They also run BSL classes and communication training, helping both Deaf and hearing people communicate more confidently. The more people who learn sign language, the easier the world becomes for Deaf communities generally.

  • Then there’s the community side of things. Deafway organises activities, support groups, events, outreach programmes, things that help people stay connected. Isolation is a huge issue for a lot of Deaf people, especially older adults, and community spaces genuinely matter.

  • They also help with independence and employment support. Sometimes communication barriers stop people from accessing opportunities they’re more than capable of doing. Deafway helps people build confidence, access training, and get support that works for them.

And alongside all of that, they campaign for better accessibility and awareness too. Which is needed, because there’s still a long way to go.

Voting is Completely Free

You don’t need to donate anything to support Deafway this month, all you need is an internet connection and a couple of seconds of free time.

Voting in our charity poll is free, there’s no sign up, no payment details, nothing like that. It literally takes 2 clicks.

The poll runs from 1st June until 30th June 2026, and whichever charity receives the most votes gets 20% of our monthly profits.

That money helps charities continue running services people genuinely rely on.
