FareShare South West is the region’s largest food redistribution charity. We save hundreds of tonnes of good surplus food each year from right across the food supply chain and redistribute it to over 400 schools, charities, and community groups across the South West. These settings provide meals as part of their services to people in need – such as children’s breakfast clubs, day clubs for older people, domestic violence refuges, homeless shelters and drug and alcohol rehab units.

With the amount of food waste in the UK reaching huge 9.5 million tonnes every year, FareShare  South West are working to reduce food waste whist also supporting the 8.4 million people in the UK living in food poverty.  With a focus on the South West and supporting local charities, schools and community groups, FareShare South West ensure that surplus food can be distributed to people of all ages experiencing hunger and poverty.

What Does FareShare South West Do?

● FareShare South West fights hunger while tacking food waste. We do this by redistributing in-date, good quality, surplus food from right across the food chain to the frontline charities and organisations who work with the most vulnerable.

● FareShare South West, an independent part of the FareShare UK network, is the largest food redistribution charity in the region. They work with front-line charities, schools and community groups to ensure surplus food reaches those that need it most in our communities.

● Every year 250,000 tonnes of food which is processed, packaged and ready-to-eat is wasted by producers, manufacturers and retailers in the UK supply chain for reasons ranging from inaccurate demand forecasting, packaging errors, damage in transit or retailer rejections. FareShare South West provides a flexible and easy way of working together to ensure good quality surplus food never reaches a bin.

What Did FareShare South West Achieve in 2021?

  • 2041 tonnes of food saved and redistributed

  • We provided food for 4,860,844 meals

  • We saved our charity partners an estimated £5 million in food cost

  • Supported Over 400 charities, schools and community groups

  • Over 50,000 vulnerable people were helped
