What Does Four Square Do?


Four Square is an Edinburgh-based charity, providing long term support to people experiencing homelessness. Four Square has a number of accommodation services, supporting young people experiencing homelessness and a refuge for women who are homeless due to domestic or gender based violence. Four Square is ambitious for the people we support and rooted in the belief that everyone deserves a beautiful home and a place in their community.

Four Square works to support individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness by providing a comprehensive range of services, including accommodation, advice, counselling, and training. In addition to these core services, Four Square operates two social enterprises that make a significant impact:

  • Edinburgh Furniture Initiative (EFI): One of Scotland’s largest social enterprises, EFI prevents over 38,000 items of furniture from going to landfill each year, promoting sustainability while helping people furnish their homes affordably.

  • Four Square Park Café: Located in Saughton Park, this welcoming café offers affordable food and drink in a cosy, community-focused setting.


This work goes beyond immediate support, aiming to empower individuals, reduce waste, and strengthen communities.

 

What Services do Four Square Provide


Four Square delivers a wide range of services designed to support individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. These include:

  • Accommodation Provision: Offering safe and secure housing options for young people and women experiencing homelessness or at risk of losing their homes.

  • Student Placements: Providing opportunities for therapeutic counselling students to gain practical experience by working alongside the people in our services.

  • Advice and Guidance: Delivering tailored support to help individuals navigate challenges and access the resources they need.

  • Mentoring Support: Supporting young people to build confidence and develop the skills required for employment, education, or volunteering.

  • Visiting Support: Assisting people in the local community with issues that could lead to homelessness, such as rent arrears, through personalised advice and intervention.
