What Does KFR Do?

KFR (Kennet Furniture Refurbiz) is a longstanding Wiltshire-based reuse charity dedicated to ensuring that no individual or family goes without. What they do is pretty simple but it has a huge impact, as they make sure people have the basic things they need to live properly.

They collect and refurbish donated furniture and white goods. Beds. Sofas. Fridges. Cookers. Washing machines. The kind of stuff you don’t think about much… until you don’t have it. They then distribute these to households across the county who are facing financial hardship, crisis, or major life transitions.

KFR collects donated furniture and white goods from across Wiltshire. If something’s in good condition, it gets cleaned, checked, maybe repaired if needed, and then resold at affordable prices. If someone’s in crisis, items can be provided for free through referral partners.

The charity originally started in Devizes and has grown over time, and now also runs a Swindon showroom alongside its main warehouse. It’s not some huge national organisation. It’s local.

What’s interesting is how their work kind of sits in the middle of two big issues: poverty and the environment. On one side, families who can’t afford basic household items. On the other, perfectly usable furniture being thrown away. KFR connects the dots. It keeps good items in use and gets them to people who actually need them.

It sounds straightforward — and it is — but the impact is bigger than you might think.

The team is made up of staff and volunteers, and there’s a real mix of backgrounds and experience. Some people come with practical repair skills. Some are rebuilding their own confidence. Some just want to give back. It’s not polished or corporate. It’s real people doing hands-on work.

Over the years, KFR has supported thousands of households across Wiltshire.

What Services Does KFR Provide?

Affordable Preloved Furniture & Appliances

KFR sells second-hand furniture and white goods that have been checked and tested. Beds, wardrobes, sofas, tables, cookers, fridges — the basics that make a house function. Prices are kept as low as possible because the aim isn’t profit, it’s accessibility. And every sale helps fund support for people who can’t afford these essential goods.

Free Collection of Donations

Got a sofa you don’t need anymore? Upgrading your washing machine? KFR can collect items for free across Wiltshire (as long as they’re in usable condition). Instead of heading to landfill, those items get another life. It’s better for the environment and it helps someone locally. It’s a win-win!

Crisis & Hardship Support

This is probably the most important part of what they do. Through referrals from councils and support organisations, KFR provides essential items free of charge to people facing serious hardship such as homelessness, fleeing unsafe situations or a sudden financial crisis.

Imagine moving into an empty flat with nothing. No bed. No fridge. No table. Now imagine someone turning up with exactly what you need to get started. That’s the kind of difference KFR makes.

Volunteering & Skills Development

There are volunteer roles in the warehouse, on delivery vans, in the showroom and in admin. Some volunteers come to gain work experience. Some are retired and want to stay active. Some are rebuilding after tough times themselves. It’s not just about furniture — it’s about confidence and routine and feeling useful again.

Environmental Impact & Reuse

We talk a lot these days about sustainability, but KFR has been quietly doing it for years. Reusing furniture reduces landfill waste and cuts down the demand for new manufacturing. Buying second-hand isn’t “second best” - it’s practical and responsible.  KFR champions the #ReuseRevolution locally, encouraging people to donate, buy preloved, and think sustainably.

How Can I Contact KFR?

You can contact KFR through their website, by phone, or by visiting the Devizes warehouse or Swindon showroom during opening hours. They’re friendly and straightforward - they’ll tell you what they can do and support you in any way they can.

How Can I Support KFR?

The easiest thing you can do right now is vote in our charity poll. It takes about two minutes and it genuinely helps raise awareness.

But beyond that:

  • Donate Furniture or Appliances: If it’s good quality and still usable, it can probably help someone else. Simple as that.

  • Buy Preloved: Need a bed? A sofa? A fridge? Checking KFR first keeps money local and reduces waste. And you’ll usually save quite a bit compared to buying new.

  • Volunteer: Even a few hours a week makes a difference. Charities like this don’t run without people giving their time.

  • Make a Financial Donation: Money goes towards the Provision Fund, which covers free items for households in crisis, as well as repair costs and training.

What Do Donations Actually Do?

Every donation — whether it’s a table, a tenner, or a purchase from the showroom — goes back into the mission.

It helps to:

  • Provide essential furniture to families in need

  • Reduce landfill and environmental damage

  • Cover repair and refurbishment costs

  • Train and support volunteers

  • Keep prices affordable for people on tight budgets

The Difference KFR Has Made

In recent years, KFR has:

  • Helped thousands of households across Wiltshire

  • Delivered large amounts of crisis support through its Provision Fund

  • Saved significant volumes of furniture from being dumped

  • Reduced carbon emissions through reuse

  • Provided volunteering opportunities that build skills and confidence

Every vote is free. Every share spreads the word. And sometimes the most important support is just showing up for organisations that show up for others. Cast your free vote today and help KFR help those who need it most.

Please Note: The March charity poll will run from 1st March 2026 - 31st March 2026.
